Car manufacturer GAC launches AION in Austria

Colmobil takes over import and brand development
(Vienna, July 3, 2026). The Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) is launching the AION in Austria, appointing Colmobil GmbH as its official importer. This market entry is part of the international automotive group's European expansion, which is relying on local structures for its growth in Europe: Production of the all-electric SUV AION V and the compact all-electric AION UT is taking place at Magna in Graz.
With its market launch in Austria, GAC is expanding its presence in Europe and introducing its all-electric AION model series to the Austrian automotive market. Colmobil GmbH, based in Vienna, will be responsible for import, sales, service, marketing, and public relations. As the official importer, Colmobil will manage the market entry of GAC and AION in Austria, including the establishment and development of a dealer and service network. Following its initial European market entries, this marks the next step in GAC's regional expansion strategy, with the company launching in Austria with an experienced local importer.

The production of the AION V and the AION UT at Magna in Graz is a strong signal of this. These cars will therefore have a strong Austrian connection before they even hit the roads here.” Magna is one of the most important international partners in the automotive industry and has extensive experience in vehicle production at its Graz plant. The plant is designed for the flexible production of different drive systems and can produce vehicles with combustion, hybrid, and electric drives on shared lines. In this context, Magna points to 125 years of manufacturing experience, more than 40 vehicle models developed, and over four million vehicles produced worldwide. For GAC, this collaboration is a crucial step in further developing the brand by highlighting its quality, reliability, and European focus. Beyond vehicle production in Graz, GAC is also anchoring its European strategy with a design studio in Milan, where vehicles for Europe are designed with a strong focus on local aesthetics and customer expectations. Furthermore, a dedicated parts center in Rotterdam supports the rapid availability of spare parts throughout the region and underscores GAC's commitment to reliable after-sales service in Europe.
GAC and AION
Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., Ltd. (GAC) is one of China's major automotive groups, broadly diversified across research, development, vehicle production, components, sales, financing, and mobility services. In 2024, the group achieved sales of over 2 million vehicles. The company employs 100,000 people and has been a Fortune Global 500 company for 13 consecutive years. AION is GAC's all-electric product line, representing intelligent, connected electric vehicles. GAC will initially launch in Austria with the AION product range. The first model planned is the AION V, a D-segment SUV designed for European requirements and already awarded a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. The AION UT, a C-segment hatchback, is also planned for the Austrian market.
